Competency Framework

A competency framework has been developed for the Barbados Public Service. The framework defines the skills, knowledge and behaviours that lead to successful performance outcomes.

It is a major reform initiative that seeks to transform the Public Service by managing and developing public officers to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of public goods and services. The framework will serve to inform the recruitment and career progression of public officers as well as the application of the Performance Review and Development System (PRDS) and the 360-degree appraisal system.

The Competency Framework sets out how the Government of Barbados wants people in the Public Service to work. It puts the guiding principles of Great Attitudes, Initiative, Values and Excellence (GIVE) as well as those articulated in the Code of Conduct and Ethics of the Public Service Act, CAP 29 at the heart of everything that the Public Service does.
