Role and Function of the Services Commissions
The various Services Commissions are independent Constitutional bodies whose scope, governance structure and authority are enshrined at Chapter VIII of the Constitution of Barbados, and the Services Commissions Act CAP. 34. Additional functions for the Services Commissions also feature at section 5 the Public Service Act CAP. 29
Role and Function of the Commissions
a) provide advice to the Governor General on the appointment, and promotion of Public Officers.
b) provide advice to the Governor General regarding discipline and removal of Public Officers.
c) give directions of a general nature and provide guidance to officers or employees in the Public Service in relation to the performance of their duties in order to promote the development of the Service and
d) appoint committees, panels or other bodies established for the purpose of:-
(i) recruitment to or promotion in the Service;
(ii) any other matter the Commission thinks fit.
