Vacation Leave
Ministries and Departments currently approve vacation leave on behalf of their staff. Set out below are some reminders regarding the granting of vacation leave.
Temporary officers earn their vacation leave according to their respective salary.
Appointed officers with more than one year’s service and contract officers may be granted their full annual vacation leave at any stage in the leave year.
Vacation leave eligibility is earned by officers as follows:-
Z11 and above 42 days per annum. Maximum accumulation is 126 days.
Z23- 12-30 days per annum. Maximum accumulation is 78 days.
Z24 and under, after five years’ service-30 days per annum. Maximum accumulation 70 days.
Z24 and under, with less than five years’ service-21 days per annum. Maximum accumulation 35 days.
A substitute officer, who completes at least three months service during the period of one year, is eligible for the proportionate part of vacation leave.
It must be noted that;
(a) Public holidays are not counted as part of vacation leave.
(b) An officer must actually work on the bank holiday to be granted a lieu day.
(c) Vacation leave eligibility for the year is reduced proportionately by extensions of sick leave, no pay, half pay, study or training leave, resignation, retirement and death.
